MATRIC was part of the Department of Energy’s (DOE) National Energy Technology Laboratory (NETL) team, in collaboration with other national laboratories, that developed an Offshore Risk Modeling (ORM) Suite that was recognized by R&D Magazine as one of the 100 most technologically significant products introduced into the marketplace in the past year.

The ORM Suite, honored in the Software/Services category, is a set of eight innovative, science– and data-driven computational tools and models that span the full offshore system. The suite is designed to improve the prediction and evaluation of offshore oil spills. Tools and models within the suite address key knowledge and technology gaps to improve upon conventional oil spill prevention methods. Using petabytes of data, the suite applies novel and efficient methods to cross-examine data across space and time to support predictive analyses for safer, more prudent future efforts and rapid-response, real-time assessments.

The R&D 100 Awards have served as the most prestigious innovation awards program for the past 56 years, honoring great R&D pioneers and their revolutionary ideas in science and technology.
