Jeffrey G. Hippler, Ph.D.


Senior Chemical Engineer

Jeff Hippler had a 25-year career with Union Carbide and Dow Chemical in which he was involved in a wide variety of technologies. He advanced to the positions of Principal Engineer and Technical Leader in the reaction engineering area. Jeff has strong experience in most reaction and separation technologies and expertise in measuring and modeling reaction kinetics, including homogeneous, heterogeneous, polymerization and multi-phase systems, for the development of new processes and the optimization of existing processes.

Hippler’s specific knowledge of industrial chemistry includes hydrolysis, esterification, hydroformylation, hydrochlorination, hydrogenation, oxidation, transesterification, polymerization, amination, alkoxylation, Fischer-Tropsch and free-radical chemistry. He is an expert in laboratory/pilot-plant design, construction, automation and operation. He designed and constructed over fifty unique laboratories ranging in scale from microchannel to pilot-plant, and has experience with laboratory techniques such as GC, GC/MS, LC, NMR, Karl Fisher, FTIR, NIR, Raman, AA, and UV/Vis.

More recently, Jeff served as Senior Director of Process Development for a company working on commercialization of algae processing technology, before joining MATRIC in 2014.
