Additional Large-Scale Facilities

Other scale-up facilities are located at the West Virginia Regional Technology Park and are available to MATRIC if projects would benefit from their use.

BUILDING 740 LARGE SCALE LAB

A large laboratory operating area is available on the first floor of Building 740. The approximately 66′ x 36′ lab is situated on the first floor. Its ceiling height varies from a low of 8 feet to as high 12 feet. There is also a large hood that measures 3 feet deep by 24 feet wide and approximately 35 feet in operating height. A large service door allows access for large equipment and fork trucks. This building currently has a full range of utilities and services, including 240V and 120V electric service. Besides city water and sewer, the Building 740 large scale lab has steam service at 200 psig and 30 psig, plant air at 90 psig.

MARKET DEVELOPMENT PLANT

The Market Development Plant is a facility used to produce developmental or small commercial quantities of various products. It includes the basic infrastructure and utilities required for the construction and operation of pilot and small production facilities. The Plant is located on the grounds of the Technology Park and consists of two major buildings with associated support facilities.

Building 707

Building 707 is a 3 story concrete structure, containing operating cells, an electrical control room, utility room, conference room, library, archive file room on the 1st level, 8 offices, men’s locker room/restroom on the 2nd level, control room, lunch room, lab, and women’s locker room/restroom on the 3rd level.

The operating section of 707 is consists of 3 stories of 12″ thick reinforced concrete walls on 3 sides and fiberglass panels on the south side. It consists of 11 cells 10 ft. x 18 ft. and one 21 ft. x 18 ft. The cells contain process equipment ranging from 5 gal to 2000 gal in either 316 SS or glass lined reactors.

The building has a freight elevator, emergency lighting, gas detectors, alarm system & fire water spray protection.

Building 706

Building 706 is a 3-story concrete structure, consisting of electrical control room, utility room, control room, lunch room, and restroom on the 1st level, 4 offices, and rest room on the 2nd level, men’s locker room/restroom, and lab on the 3rd level.

The operating section of 706 is also 3 stories of 12″ thick reinforced concrete walls on 3 sides and fiberglass panels on the south side. It consists of one cell 23 ft. x 20 ft. and one 26 ft. x 34 ft., 5 walk in hoods with cylinder feed station set up in one of them. The cells contain process equipment ranging from 30 gal to 1000 gal in either 316 SS or glass lined reactors.

On the west side of 706 is a structure that holds 2 glass lined vessels and other operating equipment.

The building has a freight elevator, emergency lighting, gas detectors, alarm system & fire water spray protection.

General Facilities

Available utilities include a chilled coolant at -10°C, control air, process air, cooling water, nitrogen, steam, 120v single phase power, and 460v three phase power. Building 707 is equipped with a flexible, relatively easy to reconfigure control system that is used to control operations in multiple cells. The scale and size of most of the equipment is suitable for drum scale materials handling. However, bulk materials as large as a tank truck can be handled. A tank truck loading/unloading facility can handle up to 2 trucks at a time. A moderate amount of warehouse space and outdoor lay-down space is available on the land around the MDP, included a hot room for maintaining high freezing materials. A roofed, concrete pad for drum storage is available nearby. A small out-of-service flare is available to the MDP.
