Dr. Lou Kapicak leads AVN’s bio-based fuels initiatives, serves as a mentor to senior and junior staff, and manages multiple development projects. He has more than 30 years of research and R&D techno-economic-chemical-design-technology-improvement experience. His project areas have included ruminant nutrition, microbiology, homogeneous and heterogeneous catalysis, syngas chemistry, organic process chemistry and process development.

Formerly, he provided technical process chemistry support to manufacturing facilities in the US, Canada, Europe, Kuwait and Malaysia for the Union Carbide Ethylene Oxide/Ethylene Glycol business and interacted with customers around the world, providing them with technical advice regarding glycol products.

Dr. Kapicak served as Associate Director of R&D and Global Technology Manager for the EO Catalyst and EO/EG process. He was responsible for Product Stewardship, Operational Safety and new EO catalyst and EO/EG process development for the EO/EG business, including discovery, development and commercialization of new catalysts and new process technology for manufacturing EO and glycols.
